trash quilts

Fayetteville, Arkansas

2020-2024

Just as you might inherit a quilt from your mother, who inherited it from her mother, future generations will have our waste passed down to them.

With these works, I aim to satirize the idea of modern heirlooms by building new ones out of discarded items. I attempt to capture the familiar overstimulation of our era that's palpable in daily acts as innocuous as a trip to the grocery store, and pair it with the overwhelming perpetuity of waste.

I look at brands, advertising trends, colors, repetition, and traditional quilt patterns for inspiration. Quilt-making is also a way to engage with generations of women who used scavenged, misfit materials for function and craft.

I source paperboard from family, friends, and local businesses. If you are interested in donating your waste paperboard or commissioning a piece using your favorite brands, send me a message and let's talk!
